I am looking for a app that I can download music on my iphone. So far I have not found one the works with voiceover. Also, I downloaded say text and can not get it to read the text back to me, either it is not a good app or I am not doing somthing right. Is there another scanning text app that I can try?
Thanks.

If you just want to listen to music and not actually have songs at your fingertips that you would prefer to hear, the pandora ap would be a pretty decent pick for you. It's accessible, and pretty good for what it does. Otherwise, I recommend you put in whatever songs you want via iTunes. You can either buy songs from the music store, or you can put in MP3's or other supported files if you already have songs saved on your computer. Again, you'll need to use iTunes to do so.
As for Saytext, for being free, it's decent at what it does, but you have to be very careful to make sure that the camera is right on the middle of the page you're trying to scan so that it can see the whole thing. It's not too amazingly accessible for blind people because of the fine-line specifics I've known it to require, but I've been told that there are other aps out there that don't require such a fine line of camera perfection. Most of those are paid aps though, so you'll need to shell out a few bucks.

Text Grabber and Prizmo are two OCR apps but also need pretty precise positioning of the camera.

if you really want an app that will download songs to your iphone, you can jailbreak if you know what your doing and either download a music app or even get a torrent app, i use both on droid and they work well.

Post 5 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Wednesday, 02-May-2012 8:48:07

Be careful with jailbreaking of that's the route you want to take. You could theoretically mess your phone up to a point where it will no longer work. So, consider very carefully before deciding to do that.
At the very least I would suggest getting someone who does know what they're doing to do it for you. You sound like a pretty new iPhone user and I'd not advise a new user try to do it on their own phone on the first try.

I am a new i phone user and do not want to do that. I will just keep searching, maybe I will find a music app adventually.

I'm considering getting an Iphone but I honestly don't know much about them..I want to get it for the texting purpose.

Hey here is a new ap that you guys might be interested in. It is called fruitmachine. It was on the apple vis site and I downloaded it for my IPad. Now it is 99 cents but it is very well worth the cost. I play with it for hours and it is very adicting. It's like slots, accept with fruits. Have fun!

Post 9 by LittleSneezer (The Zone-BBS is my prison, but I like it here.) on Monday, 28-May-2012 12:49:27

There's been a lot of buzz about Accessible Fruitmachine on the viPhone list; I just decided to buy it, since it's inexpensive and sounds addictive.

Awesome! Let me know if you like it! I got a friend of mine hooked on it hahaha. She said, you might make me stay up all night to play this game. It was funny.

I downloaded the fruit game, it is fun. Let me know if you come across more games to.

Back to music I Tunes is the best and I find it easy to use. Install it on your computer. If you are use to using scripts than install blind tunes. I think that URL is www.blindtunes.net, but you can find that in a search.
I didn't start using the scripts and find that if you play with I Tunes you get use to it.
Now if you have had a MP3 or phone that plays music you'll understand how the rest works if you are getting music from your computer. I simply copy the file go to I Tune and press control O I think it says add files to library. In the box I paste the copy hit inter and that file is added.
You'll need to set your phone up, so just connect it after I Tunes is installed and follow directions.

One of the things that was asked about was being able to read printed documents. When I was at the Florida NFB convention, I found out that there is going to be a version of the KNFB Reader for the iPhone. If you are having trouble with free apps such as SayText or Text Grabber, you might want to stay tuned.

Post 14 by The royal princess (Zone BBS Addict) on Monday, 02-Jul-2012 18:15:51

hey you know what I love? I have a game called words with friends on my IPad. It seems pretty easy. What you do is, you create a word, send it to your facebook friend, and they can only see your vowels. If they don't guess it, their balloon pops and they fall in to lava. It is so fun! If anyone wants to play with me, PM me and we can give it a shot.

pandora is good for music, not for downloading though. Last.fm is another one, but it's only free with a trial.

Hanging with Friends is good too. Accessibility is lacking a little, but nothing that can't be worked around. it's basically hangman with your friends.

I downloaded accessible fruit machine ages ago but have no idea how to play it. I'm not familiar with slots. If someone can tell me I'd be grateful. :)

does any one know a good recorder for the iphone thanks

Post 19 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 05-Jul-2012 19:19:09

You mean, besides voice memos? You know you can actually transfer those to your computer via iTunes, right? Then, if you want, you can delete them from your phone so you can have more space. they're just m4a files, which some media players will play, but you can always convert them to any other file format of your choosing.

tune-in Radio is a great ap for listening to different radio stations. There are all kinds of jaunras, music, talk, sports, etc from all around the world. I've had a blast listening to radio stations in other parts of the country. I especially like the Alaska forecast when it says, "Tonight, we'll have sunshine."
Ok, I digress. I think Itunes is the only way to get music from your computer to your phone if that's what you're wanting to do.
I didn't have much luck with Say Text so can't help you there. Sorry.

Ok, so about voice notes. When I use it to record the volume of what I've recorded is very low. It has the 20 percent slider, I guess, but I can't seem to make it do much. Any suggestions? Honestly, I haven't played with it since version 4 so now thaht I've got 5.1 I should probably try it again so as not to look like a complete idiot. lol

A physical game for your device, Blindfold Ping Pong, is also a great game.
Whether you're playing at student or corporate puke you know when it's time to get off your ass and take a brain break. Play it right-handed, or southpaw, mix it up, get it done. It's just your arms but you'll catch yourself moving your feet also.
It's not really a so-called special app because anyone who can see and using the game is not real likely to be looking anyway.
You want to use the sound of yourself or your opponent hitting the ball.
Just a way to get a bit physical when doing the staff puke, student, or corporate peon thing.

I thought Words with Friends wasn't accessible with VO. Or am I thinking of something else?

Post 24 by shea (number one pulse checking chicky) on Thursday, 06-Sep-2012 20:45:37

yeah, the way she explained it, i think she meant hanging with friends. words with friends as far as i know doesn't play well with voice over

Post 25 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 29-Sep-2012 17:22:19

Omgosh have so much to learn such as installing itones..can't figure that one out although I like to brouse the ring toan store and hear all the different ring tons

Post 26 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Thursday, 04-Oct-2012 11:30:02

hanging is hangman. you are given the last vowel of a word your friend made. and you get a certian number of guesses. a 4 letter word will give you 8 strikes to guess it in, an 8 leter word will only give yu 4 strikes to guess it in. addicting game.

look me up via username on hanging with friends am, draconess

the accessability in words non existant, scramble is non existant and the other games only game that is accessable with vo is hanging. i've asked around

I think 7 Little Words is a really good word game for the iPhone. You are given combinations of letters which you put into words based on the clues you are given.

Post 28 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 04-Oct-2012 15:52:27

I like 7 Little words too.
I saw something on applevis.com the other day called Word Zanga, or something like that. It's in the newly added catagory of apps. It's not free but it looked fun. It says it works with VO.

Post 29 by LittleSneezer (The Zone-BBS is my prison, but I like it here.) on Thursday, 04-Oct-2012 16:04:42

Hmm, I'll have to check it out.

Post 30 by Nicky (And I aprove this message.) on Thursday, 04-Oct-2012 23:37:12

Oh i love 7 little words.
hanging with friends is good to,
the word scramble is possible, but difficult for a blind person to play. I have.
I have fruit machine and it is fun too, but not so once you get all the fruit and can't gain anything more.
just got blind fold ping pong too.
awesome apps,

I am reading through this thread and checking out things. I just installed the blind tune scripts for Itunes and it is awesome. I have posted a thread about how to fast forward and rewind and I solved my issues wiht this scrip.

Still looking for iphone apps..what does everyone think of a good gps apps? I'm looking for a gps that I can walk around and it'll tell me stuff around me..and, help me give turn by turn instructions. Anyone have any good reviews?

Post 33 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 28-Oct-2012 20:56:44

I think Navigon does turn-by-turn but i'm not willing to pay for it. I forget how much it is. To my knowleedge, you can pay just for your region. Ariadne GPs is another, cheaper GPS option. I've played with that one a little bit, but can't recall exactly how it works since I haven't used it in quite a while.

Okay I am back in the Iphone IOS world first a android fanbut I will hand it to an IOS developer for coming up with a kick butt OCR app. Prizmo kicks butt on the 4s and the 5 :) which I have the 5. The new update tells you if it sees a page and does the orintation for viewing the page. Let me tell you, after using this app KNFB reader can shove it up where the sun don't shine. $9.99 or an out dated over price program. Prizmo whens :)!.

Post 36 by starfly (99956) on Thursday, 30-May-2013 14:02:27

Let me add to this post, it was able to read a UPS label no, enfact two UPS labels with very little hickups, that flat out impressed me. To add to another app Viswiz has impressed me as well, while google goggles is very good what goggles does not have on android that Viswiz does have is people who are live and can tell you what's around.

Post 37 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 30-May-2013 18:54:45

I've been seriously considering purchasing Prizmo, but I'd seen lots of mixed reviews for it and so hadn't gone for it yet. I'm sure I'll end up getting it though, because the other apps I've tried aren't working so well.

Post 38 by starfly (99956) on Friday, 31-May-2013 10:29:19

I have a co-worker who has a Iphone 4, no S in that name :), he will be trying it out on his phone. That phone has a 5 mega pixal camra, if it works I will report back here for those who have the Iphone 4.

Post 39 by Thunderstorm (HotIndian!) on Friday, 28-Jun-2013 20:44:29

I think as per the OCR apps, it is also with our cooperation to see how far it is accurate. I bought an app which is called text-detective, and still I'm fighting with that. We must take practice to accurately focus on the scanning material though.

Raaj.

Post 40 by Ed_G (Zone BBS is my Life) on Sunday, 30-Jun-2013 2:09:20

Hi,

I think there's now a portable stand available for the iPhone when you're using OCR apps so that the phone and the paper are always aligned. I've heard it's not that sturdy and in my view it rather detracts from the portability of the iPhone, but might be of use to some.

Cheers,

Ed
